Specify the bore, the fit and the faces that locate your part.
Key Inquiry Requirements
Start with the assembly, not the outline
Use the inquiry to show how the tube sits in the surrounding equipment. A simple section view can explain whether the bore carries another part, the outside locates in a housing, or a shoulder establishes axial position. Identify the surfaces that actually make contact. This is more useful than applying the same tight tolerance to every feature.
For a replacement component, include the available drawing revision and photographs of the installed arrangement. A photograph alone does not establish dimensions or material composition. If only a physical sample is available, say which requirements are known and which would need to be established before an order.
Make the material designation explicit
Alumina is a widely used technical ceramic, but the family name does not identify a single grade. State the required composition or existing specification when one is available. If material selection is still open, describe the purpose of the part instead of selecting a percentage from an unrelated catalogue.
Include the operating environment and any electrical, thermal or chemical requirements. These inputs support a grade discussion; they are not a promise that a pictured tube will suit the application. Ask for project-specific material data and agree which properties need verification.
Define the bore and external features together
List bore diameter, outside dimensions, overall length and any steps, flats or seating shoulders. For multi-feature components, identify the datum from which the important dimensions are measured. Call out edge treatment where an edge contacts a seal, wire or mating component.
Straightness, concentricity, perpendicularity and surface texture answer different assembly questions. Specify the characteristic that controls function and the method by which it will be assessed. Do not use a generic precision label as a substitute for an inspection requirement.
Separate appearance from acceptance
The product photographs show an example component form. They do not define the finish, grade, size or delivered configuration for your order. If an exposed surface has appearance requirements, identify that surface and describe the acceptable condition in the purchasing specification.
For functional surfaces, agree the relevant drawing notes and inspection records. Discuss packaging requirements for thin walls, projecting features or surfaces that must remain protected. Material documentation and measurement reports should be requested in the RFQ rather than assumed after production.
Build a useful quotation request
Send the drawing, requested quantity and intended use together. Distinguish the immediate evaluation quantity from an expected repeat requirement, and identify any fixed project dates as requested dates. MOQ, feasibility and timing need confirmation against the actual component.
Where a proposed change might be acceptable, explain the boundary: for example, a non-mating outer feature may be flexible while the locating bore is not. Any material or geometry change should be reviewed and approved before it becomes part of the order specification.
Questions Before You Inquire
Can I inquire without a complete drawing?
Yes. Send the dimensions you know, photographs and the role of the component. The missing specifications still need to be resolved before a production order.
Are the pictured dimensions standard stock sizes?
No stock size or availability is implied. The images illustrate a component form; describe the size and quantity you need.
What grade and tolerance can be supplied?
These are project-specific discussion points. Provide the required grade and critical dimensions so they can be addressed in the proposed scope.
Can I request inspection documents?
List the required documents and acceptance criteria in the RFQ. Their availability and scope must be confirmed before ordering.
