Define the crucible’s process role

An aluminium nitride crucible can be designed for a specific process arrangement rather than treated as a generic open vessel. Explain whether it holds, supports, separates, transfers, or shields a material during processing. Identify the charge form, loading method, lid or cover relationship, support points, surrounding hardware, and removal method so geometry is connected to real handling conditions.

Provide a section view with internal volume, wall transitions, base shape, rim, lid interface, slots, holes, feet, or locating features. Mark surfaces that contact the process material and those that contact fixtures. If the crucible is used in semiconductor processing, vacuum work, crystal growth, metal treatment, or materials research, describe the process context without assuming that one design suits every application.

Set material and atmosphere requirements

The material callout should state the required aluminum nitride family and invite the supplier to identify the proposed specification, forming route, finishing method, and relevant process limitations. Compare chemical compatibility, thermal cycling, mechanical handling, contamination risk, and surface condition against the actual process. A broad high-temperature description does not replace an application-specific material review.

Describe atmosphere, pressure, reactive species, moisture exposure, cleaning chemistry, and contact materials when they can influence the crucible or its contents. State whether the vessel must remain electrically insulating, electrically active, or simply compatible with nearby equipment. Ask suppliers to identify material, coating, joining, or packaging assumptions that could affect process cleanliness.

Design for loading and thermal movement

Crucible geometry should account for loading, emptying, support, and inspection without creating avoidable stress concentrations. Define allowable contact zones, lifting or extraction features, clearance to fixtures, and whether a cover must locate without binding. If the charge changes volume or shape during processing, show the required free space and any surfaces that must remain unobstructed.

Thermal cycling can affect the crucible, support fixture, lid, and process material as a combined system. Provide the heating and cooling sequence when known, along with support orientation and contact constraints. Ask the supplier to review wall transitions, corners, rim details, and dimensional stability against the intended cycle instead of relying on a generic crucible outline.

Inspect cleanliness and condition

Inspection should address internal and external geometry, wall continuity, base flatness, rim condition, lid fit, support features, and any locating dimensions that control the process. Define which dimensions affect charge capacity or fixture clearance and which may be sampled. If the crucible must be balanced, concentric, or positioned relative to a heater or susceptor, make those relationships explicit.

Ceramic vessels should also be checked for chips, cracks, surface damage, contamination, and residue from machining or cleaning. Define the visual acceptance method and cleanliness evidence required for the process. Packaging matters because an acceptable crucible can be compromised by particles, abrasion, moisture, or careless contact after inspection and before installation.

Prepare the crucible RFQ

Include the controlled drawing, process description, material-contact information, atmosphere, pressure, thermal sequence, quantity assumptions, prototype status, inspection plan, and packaging expectations. Ask suppliers to state the proposed material specification, forming and finishing route, cleaning process, inspection capability, handling limits, and any design concerns. Separate required data from preferences to make responses comparable.

A useful quotation should identify assumptions about capacity, wall thickness, support, lid, surface condition, and process exposure. Request proposed alternatives only when their effects are clearly explained. Before approval, compare the complete technical response, sample or fit-validation plan, inspection records, and packaging controls so the chosen crucible can be evaluated against the process rather than a generic product label.

Product images are illustrative references. They do not establish Porcecore factory ownership, stock availability or the specification of a supplied part. Confirm the drawing, material and order requirements separately.

Questions Before You Inquire

What process information belongs in an aluminium nitride crucible RFQ?

Describe the material being held, loading and removal method, atmosphere, pressure, chemical exposure, thermal cycle, support arrangement, lid relationship, cleanliness needs, and surrounding equipment. Include the controlled drawing and identify all contact surfaces. These details allow suppliers to review compatibility, geometry, handling, and inspection as one system.

Is crucible capacity enough to specify the vessel?

No. Capacity does not define wall transitions, base support, rim geometry, lid fit, clearances, surface condition, or handling features. Provide internal and external geometry, charge behavior, fixture interfaces, and process constraints. Ask suppliers to confirm how their proposed design preserves usable volume and installation clearance.

Why are cleanliness and packaging important for ceramic crucibles?

Residue, particles, moisture, or abrasion can affect a process even when the crucible dimensions are acceptable. Define cleaning compatibility, inspection method, handling controls, packaging, and traceability. The buyer should also state whether unpacking or pre-use conditioning has restrictions, so the supplied condition matches the process requirement.

What defects should be reviewed before using the crucible?

Review cracks, chips, damaged rims, blocked openings, distorted support features, contamination, machining residue, and dimensional conditions that affect fixture fit or charge placement. Acceptance criteria should distinguish cosmetic variation from process risk. Request recorded checks for critical geometry and a defined visual method for internal surfaces.
